As his addictive new album Five Easy Hot Dogs is released, the artist opens up to Emma Garland about the emotional – and real-life – journeys he’s been on lately, his monk-like existence and the worst thing he ate on the road...
Mac DeMarco photo credit Kiera McNally LEAD IMAGE

There is a version of Mac DeMarco frozen in time and place. The 32-year-old – whose music is baked so deeply into the landscape of modern guitar pop it feels like he ought to be older – shot to prominence in the early-2010s and almost instantly came to define them. His warm, softly psychedelic music – blue wave, jizz jazz, whatever you want to call it – goes hand in hand with what we might now think of as the last hurrah before social media redefined thehellip;

The Palestinian designer is bringing ancient folklore and future technologies in concert with each other
Zeid Hijazi

For young designers working across the global south, “futurism” is an attractive term. With roots in African-American science fiction, it offers an alternative to the glass-paned megalopolises of colonial nations; homogenous citadels where the future has arrived, but at the expense of craft, tradition, and mysticism. Designers like Zeid Hijazi, who is from read more raquo;

Free from her label, the south London pop siren has soared to the top of the charts. Ahead of her album release, she discusses her newfound independence, the stories behind her ‘visceral’ new tracks, and why her self-confidence has never been better
Raye Dazed

When Raye climbed to number one with “Escapism” earlier this month, it wasn’t just deserved, but deliciously ironic. The wildly talented singer-songwriter spent seven years on a major label chasing hits that came, all too often, at the expense of her own musical identity. At an intimate gig in London last October, she sang her massive 2021 house banger “Bed”, a collaboration with DJ-producers Joel Corry and David Guetta that is now nudging 400 million Spotifyhellip;
